UK independent film distributor Revolver Entertainment has launched a new Facebook video-on-demand (So-VOD) service at Cannes Film Festival 2012.

FindWatchShare reels in Revolver’s library of indie flicks, new and old, letting users search, share and watch movies directly on the Facebook platform. In addition to renting movies, FindWatchShare lets users hire films through video stores such as iTunes, Play.com and Amazon too.

Revolver Entertainment is celebrating fifteen years in business, and today is one of the UK’s leading independent all-rights film distribution companies, with offices in London and Los Angeles.

Film fans in the UK and Ireland will be able to access the new video service from today. The aim then is to bring other UK & Ireland distributors’ films onto the service, whilst they’re seeking funding to role the service out in all major territories.

“FindWatchShare was a natural progression in both our distribution and marketing strategy,” says Justin Marciano, CEO at Revolver Entertainment. “We wanted to create an immersive and fun way for people to discover and access films in different ways; on their favourite devices -  and when and where they want – and to reward them for it.

“We believe the platform of So-VOD – another first that Revolver has created to best maximize user-experience for our community – has huge potential moving into the future,” he continues.  “We are currently considering offers from third parties to partner us moving forward, as we look to roll out the platform internationally, expand it’s content, and extend it’s reach.”

To encourage the ‘sharing’ aspect of Facebook, users will also be able to secure up to 50% discount on titles by spreading the good word. And in terms of costs, Facebook Credits are used to pay at the checkout, and all the titles I checked cost 30 credits. For reference purposes, 50 credits cost $5 USD, 105 credits will be $10 and incrementally less the more you buy.

Revolver worked with social service development company Softwind Studio on the back of their successful video-on-demand services for Top Gear and Doctor Who, for BBC Worldwide.

Revolver also recently set up its own production arm – Gunslinger – which has produced four films in its first 30 months including Shank, a top 10 UK box office hit in 2010, and Anuvahood, which broke all previous box office records for Revolver, taking in more than £2.1 million at UK cinemas.

Its most notable recent release was Into the Abyss: A Tale of Death, a Tale of Life by Werner Herzog, which received the Grierson Award for Best Documentary at the 2011 BFI London Film Festival.
